Projects financed by EEA and Norway Grants (2008-2016)
CBNRM Networking has been involved as a Norwegian partner in a number of projects funded by this grant scheme, addressing a broad set of concerns, while centering around social development. The projects were located in Bulgaria, Latvia, Romania, and Slovenia. The Norwegian consulting firm Supras Ltd. was involved in a couple of the projects. About: Coming out of the previous political-economical communist regime, stakeholders in transition countries largely lack the ability to network and associate. This project accordingly addressed capacity building and networking of stakeholders in civil society and the public sector. It aimed to make possible and encourage participation of civil society in a democratic decision-making process, and cooperation between local civil society initiatives and appropriate institutions in the public sector. - Public Support to the Sustainable Management of Natura 2000 Sites Along the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast (PDS 044)

About: The coastal zone in Bulgaria is heavily built up, with international mass tourism representing a large and increasing threat to sustainable management. Nobody seems to be in control or take responsibility. In this situation, this projects aimed to raise awareness among coastal citizens for the fact that people, in civil society and public sector, have to collaborate to achieve changes. Towards this, the project argued for increased involvement of stakeholders in the public sector in coastal management, and increased communication and contact between stakeholders in public sector and civil society. - Ecotourism in Tara Dornelor, an Instrument for Sustainable Development (PDS 045).

About: An integrated approach to utilizing ecotourism and production of renewable energy to advance biodiversity protection and sustainable development. More specifically, the focus was on supporting local commune administrations and the private sector in building a network in support of ecotourism. In addition to the direct goals of training and capacity building in connection with building ecotourism capacity in the region, there was a secondary focus on conflict prevention and democracy building. The assignment centered on social analysis and capacity building. - Promoting Democratic Values with the TV Program "Small Stories From the Roma World" (PDS 053)

About: The project produced 20 short films, each around 10 minutes long, which presents aspects of Roma life and culture, as viewed from within the culture. The director is herself a Roma. The film will be shown on national TV, as well as internationally. They aim to contribute to creating a better understanding between Roma and the majority culture. Experiences in Bulgaria and Norway with teaching about cultural understanding will be shared. - Improvement of Penitentiary Staff's Capacity for Prevention of Discriminiation and Protection of Human Rights Through Training Based on European (PDS 055)

About: The project contributed to improving the competence of staff in selected penitentiaries, through training and transfer of Norwegian experience, and updating of programs for initial and ongoing training. The project focused specifically on Roma inmates, which constitute a majority of all inmates. As part of the project, a Bulgarian delegation traveled to Norway to meet and share experiences with colleagues. - Seniors, Resources in the Community: Volunteering at Third Age (PDS 056)

About: A comprehensive and in-depth study of the apartment buildings sector, combining social and environmental engineering research methods. The aim is to find out how to influence people decisions regarding renovations, climate change and energy efficiency, as well as to understand which business and energy efficiency models are the most appropriate in order to reach the goals of all involved parties (residents, private enterprises, government, EU etc.).
